Course description

Optics studies the properties and nature of light. It is our understanding of the nature of light that has led to the development of devices as simple as a magnifying glass, or optical lenses to more sophisticated instruments such as lasers, printers, photocopiers and many more. 

In this course students will study light mainly as a wave, not a particle, and will also get an understanding the properties of waves in general, not only visible light. It is our understanding of these properties that has made us able to transer information over long distances by means of radio waves, telephone and the internet.
